SEFF Film Forum

For the first time Szczecin European Film Festival'15 is to hold the Polish-German Film Forum. Apart from presenting the output of the Westpomeranian Film Fund “POMERANIA FILM” (ZFF) and of Kulturelle Filmförderung Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, we will also see a choice of Polish and German productions supported by the aforementioned entities. The Forum's guests will include film experts, producers, and filmmakers from both countries. During a moderated discussion we will talk about the Funds' structures and their experiences concerning international cooperation. Together with experts we will deliberate over the possibilities of future cross-border cooperation of filmmakers from both regions in terms of film production and distribution.  The Forum fits perfectly within the frames of the Festival as a meeting and cooperation point for the film branch right on the Polish-German border.
The partners of the project are the Westpomeranian Film Fund “Pomerania Film”  and Kulturelle Filmförderung Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

The film fund was founded in 1991 and is ran by Filmbüro Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Film e.V. based in Wismar. Filmbüro MV also administrates the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern archive, the film memory of the region.
The cultural film fund supports independent, creative filmmakers and promising young talents, from the first script draft, through the production process, all the way to distribution. It also offers professional advice and supports the development of a cooperation network in the region. Its funding comes from the resources of the Ministry of Education, Research and Culture of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The distribution of grants is decided upon by an independent film committee of five specialists.
The financed films from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are screened all over the world: at festivals, in cinemas, and in television. The foundation mainly supports documentary films. Szczecin European Film Festival is a perfect place to present a selection of films on the region, right on the Polish-German borderland.
The film “Nur der Pole bringt die Kohle,” provocative in its title, is a good example of how the life of Poles and Germans in the borderland region is intertwined and what potential for development there is in their cooperation. The film was co-financed by the foundation, directed by Markus Stein, and produced by Olaf Jacobs.
